Drake (born Aubrey Graham) originally became known for playing Jimmy Brooks on the television series Degrassi: The Next Generation. In the show, Brooks is a basketball star who became physically disabled after he was shot by a classmate. His role on the show ended in 2009, when his character graduated from Degrassi.
But it was back in 2006 that Drake began his hip-hop career, releasing his first mixtape Room for Improvement. The project was made available online via his MySpace page, and it eventually led to a second, and much more popular mixtape, titled Comeback Season. This effort caught the ear of rap mogul Lil’ Wayne, who took Drake under his wing and even took part in his third mixtape, So Far Gone.
So Far Gone was offered online and received more than 2,000 downloads within the first two hours of its release. Since then, Drake has collaborated with the likes of Jay-Z, Kanye West, Young Jeezy, Mary J. Blige, Timbaland and Jamie Foxx.
Drake officially signed to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment in June of 2009, and his first studio album, Thank Me Later, is expected to be released on the label sometime in 2010.
A special PSU Student Pre-Sale will run this Wednesday, February 24 at 12:00 p.m. until this Thursday, February 25 at 6:00 p.m. Students can pre-purchase their tickets at the HUB, Bryce Jordan Center, Eisenhower Auditorium and Downtown Theatre.
